BarFly Ventures today announced plans to open the city’s first parklets with street patios outside Grand Rapids Brewing Co., McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon and Stella’s Lounge at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
“We’re thrilled to be able to give our customers an incredible new way to experience downtown,” said Mark Sellers, founder of BarFly Ventures. “We think these outdoor ‘street patios’ will be the hottest seats in town on pleasant summer and fall nights.”
These three properties will feature the first on-street patios; the first of the city’s parklets, transforming on-street parking spaces outside. These new city spaces will bring more positive activity to the city’s entertainment district. Each of BarFly’s parklets will include tables, chairs, umbrellas and plants to provide a unique “on-street” dining and drinking experience.
The Parklets were part of a program implemented and supported by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) and the Downtown Development Authority board to find ways to bring positive activity to downtown streets and provide innovative new ways for businesses to engage the public.
