Not that we’d ever need an excuse to go out and tip back a few cold ones with friends, but let’s be honest, additional motivating factors never hurt. Luckily, the list of great bar nights is as long and varied as HopCat’s world renowned tap list.
New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, the Super Bowl, Cinco De Mayo, the Derbyshire World Toe Wrestling Championships (seriously, it’s a thing), each event has it’s own unique charm. But for the true bar guru, nothing comes close to matching the overall awesomeness of Thanksgiving Eve.
However, unlike some of the more wild and saucy holidays (I’m looking at you, Halloween), the night before Thanksgiving is often a more refined affair. Friends and family are in town so you’ll want to showcase the best the Beer City USA has to offer, while at the same time settling in at some place where you’ll actually be able to hear the person across from you talk. Finding a perfect balance of fun and functional is key.
With that in mind, here is a list of the top four GR bars to visit this Wednesday night.
With over 250 whiskeys, a variety of cans, and a serious selection of drafts, Stella’s is never a bad time. Voted the nation’s best-burger by GQ magazine, they have plenty of great food, including a vegan options. If you’re not sold yet, you can enjoy one of their many arcade games, TVs that are always tuned to retro favs, and their friendly and upbeat staff.
Um, duh, of course we were going to list Founders. GR’s crown-jewel is a go-to spot any day of the week, and especially this Wednesday. The world famous brewery offers a variety of craft beers, gourmet food, and live entertainment, and is sure to impress any 3rd cousin, twice removed who’s come home to visit for the holidays this year.
GR’s big old building is a going to be a 4-story, 6-venue, big old blast this Wednesday. Their “Night Before Thanksgiving” party starts at 5PM and includes a virtual smorgasbord of entertainment options. With offerings ranging from casual dining to the nightclub Eve, the B.O.B. has something for everyone.
Another GR staple, Brewery Vivant not only makes some of the best beer the city has to offer, but it’s also a family friendly option for those folks looking to cut loose with the little ones in tow. Stop by early to grab a table and enjoy a Farm Hand and some Duck Confit Natchos. Or, if you can’t stick around to drink, swing by for $2.00 off growler fills (their normal Wednesday special, twice as amazing the night before a holiday) and celebrate Thanksgiving Eve the day after…on Thanksgiving.
There you have it! Four great options for your Thanksgiving Eve adventures. Let us know where you’ll be and if there’s anything we missed!
