Where to Watch the World Cup in Grand Rapids

Once every four years, a magical bromide blankets the earth, and everyone is ecstatic, except for 90% of America.

Yes, I’m talking about the World Cup.

We LOVE the World Cup at Beer O’Clock GR. Even though our beloved Men’s National Team has about the same chance of winning the tourney as you do of getting struck by lighting while being consumed by a Great White, we’re still always stoked to root for the Red, White and Blue. And if they get booted, we commiserate, get drunk and root for the Netherlands. And sometimes we get drunk enough to root for France.

Drunk enough to root for France

One way or the other, you need a great bar to watch the World Cup in. Rowdy, filled with fans, rollicking. And for that, we’ve got a list of the top 5 bars in Grand Rapids (and one in [hup] Holland [hup]) at which to watch the ultimate expression of The Beautiful Game™.

Huge thanks to the members of Grand Rapids Fans of World Football Facebook group, who are the whole reason this article has more than one bar on it.

1. SpeakEZ Lounge

Speak EZ Lounge specials and happy hours

Okay, we lied. There’s really only one place to watch the World Cup; at least one that really caters to soccer fans. The SpeakEZ team has set up their great spot as the soccer bar in GR. This goes for World Cup, EPL, MLS — any match, really.

And they’re taking care of us. How, you ask? With World Cup-themed HOT DOGS. YES. Personally, I think the “World’s Vegan Dog” (Veggie Dog, Siracha Grilled Pineapple Onion Salsa, Poppy Seed Bun) sounds like my dinner tonight. There are many others — for a list, see SpeakEZ’s Facebook page. And don’t you dare forget about the match special $4 24oz cans of Old Style and $2.50 PBR bottles.

2. Rezervoir Lounge (Formerly Sazerac Lounge)

We love this place. Great food, good drinks and awesome staff. And while they don’t have any World Cup themed food, they are going to be showing all the matches on their multitude of TVs, and it’s a great place to get rowdy with a large group. Plus, they have the distinction of being the official overflow bar for the American Outlaws supporters club.

3. Curragh Irish Pub (Holland)

Okay, so not a GR bar, but if you’re on the lakeshore, they are playing all the matches, and during those matches you get 20oz of Harp Ale for $4. Not bad.

4. Brewery Vivant

Come for the euro-style beer (the Farm Hand and Zaison are favorites), and stay for the matches. They’ll be playing all the matches on a projection wall, but don’t have any specials beyond their normal happy hours/daily specials.

5. Uccello’s Grand Rapids

So we’re not too sure about this one, but people on the Grand Rapids Fans of World Football said they had a great time here last time. But when I called about their specials they told me they had $3.75 Bud Light shorts and $4.25 Coors aluminum bottles… which seems like more expensive than normal? EDIT: Uccello’s emailed us later to let us know that the person who told us those specials was clearly inebriated and making up their own drink specials. They’re actually just running their standard happy hours and specials, which are pretty good. They have all the matches playing on all the screens.

**DOUBLE EDIT** We went to Ucello’s for the USA/Portugal match, and it was fun as hell. Huge crowd, super raucous. Great place to watch USA matches, without a doubt. All former doubt erased.
