Though we frequently pay homage to the art inside the bottle, the receptacle itself can lend itself just as much to a great drinking experience. We’ve gone through the best of the best, and judged these 10 to be the most drop-dead gorgeous beer bottles in history.
We’d like to extend a warm, Beer O’Clock GR welcome to the newest member of our team: Sasha Gale. After learning to love wine and cider while working in northern Michigan, Sasha made her way […]
Much like the affable Slim Shady, those plucky dinosaurs who returned to present-day New York City to tell their story in that adorable 1993 family favorite, and Nick, Brian, Howie, Kevin, and A.J… …the Beer O’Clock […]
Recently Beer O’Clock sat down for a Q&A with Jessica Beeby, one of the co-owners of the Craft Beer Cellar, a new bar located at 404 Ionia Ave SW, in downtown Grand Rapids. Craft Beer […]
Look, we’re all about balling on a budget (if you’ll forgive the cringeworthy phrase). And, as anyone who’s ever hopped out of a car and been seen doing it, there’s no bigger baller move than […]

Not that we’d ever need an excuse to go out and tip back a few cold ones with friends, but let’s be honest, additional motivating factors never hurt. Luckily, the list of great bar nights […]

The Beer City Runner is pretty much a dont-miss, with a route that goes to six of Grand Rapids’ breweries and gives you the chance to eat, drink, stay as long as you’d like.
Cheap beer? Check. Bar games? Check. Shirtless, hairy, unsightly dudes all done up in team color paint? …Uh, well, maybe not.
There’s a lot going on in Our Fair City and its surrounds. Most times you can’t make it to everything that you want to get to because of the sheer volume of events. Time to […]
New Grand Rapids bars are popping up all over, but there are a select few that we’re really excited for, because of what they mean for the city.

Once every four years, a magical bromide blankets the earth, and everyone is ecstatic, except for 90% of America. Yes, I’m talking about the World Cup. We LOVE the World Cup at Beer O’Clock GR. […]
Being erstwhile Portlanders (and I also having been a momentary Montanan), the Beer O’Clock GR team are all huge fans of pets in the places where we like to drink. There was a time when […]

We stopped in at Elk Brewing for pre-open beers with co-owner Erik Karns. What we found was a long-delayed Grand Rapids brewery that was worth the wait.

Oh my god! Did you feel that? It was…. warmth. The nearly forgotten feeling of warm air caressing the skin of Grand Rapidians is causing us to hope, in the deepest, quietest way, that the […]
If drinking from a glass, Short’s Publican Porter pours out nearly black in color. Seriously, the only thing stopping one from thinking they’re about to drink used motor oil is the creamy brown head that forms near the top of the glass.
If you feel the need to chase away your winter blues like I have recently, you could do a whole lot worse than heading to the store or to Holland, Michigan to pick up some Paleoozas from New Holland Brewery. Drinking a gallon of expired eggnog would be a far more ill-conceived venture, for example.
Ohio, the land where dreams and presidential elections go to die. Also, my car on the turnpike that one time. Ohio, where their state motto is, “You don’t have to be a miserable son of a bitch to live here, but it sure helps!” Ohio, home to the glorious city of Cleveland, which itself is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the ghost of fat Drew Carey.
Bob’s is a throwback, a little piece of the past frozen in time. It’s a bar where you can get drunk and curse without worrying about offending somebody’s mother. Which is good for me because I am an emotional person when I watch sports, I tend to drink heavily and spit venom, and the last thing I need is some suburban track-suit giving me the stink-eye because she brought her kids to the bar and expects everyone to act accordingly. This is not a place to bring yor kids.
Having recently decided to get back into the dating scene, I thought it proper to fill out an online dating profile. As I am pressed for time and had to do this column as well, […]
Julia Child famously said “anyone can make a bowl of pasta but it takes a skilled chef to put out a fine French meal.” The great writer was not a fan of Italian, which she […]
By Edward Hawkins “Sweet with a little bit of kick,” or so I’m told. I have quite the resistance to such things myself. You see, the only thing that could rival my love for beer […]
Hello, friends. Yours truly here has been summoned by the evil overlords at Beer O’Clock GR to write a beer column for this here website, though I’m not entirely sure why. Is it because they […]
Well kids, the shit-show is finally over. The snow, the icy breeze, the, 6,000 white-knuckled miles of bobsledding my stupid car down 96 to 31, to 104 and back are now a distant memory. And […]
By Ben Brugger Well folks, this is the end. Or the beginning I suppose. After only four reviews and a minor brush up with one of the staff, the people at Beer O’clock have decided to kick me […]

I’m pretty sure I’ve been to Brewery Vivant at least ten times since I was commissioned to write this review almost four months ago. I have no idea what’s taken me so long, but for […]
