The Winchester is a great place and a Grand Rapids original — good food, cool neighborhood and GREAT patio. Definitely a perfect summer hangout. Yuppies love this bar, so expect to see lots of folks who look like they walked out of a menswear Tumblr or a J. Crew window display. (That’s not a bad thing.) In spite of the yuppie quotient, it’s not a super “bro-ey” bar, so no hassles from meatheads here.
This place is a favorite for their Sunday morning mimosa and bloody bar. They typically offer a new cocktail each Friday and Saturday and always have 2 draft beer options that rotate. Lots of local, fresh ingredients — they even have a half-acre garden right across the street.
Oh, and more good news: The Winchester is right next door to Johnny Bz, which we think is arguably GR’s best hot dog place, so there’s classic drunk food nearby if you’re not feeling all farm to table. There’s also Donkey (owned by Paul Lee of The Winchester) which serves ludicrous tacos. Try the goat taco — seriously.
